Welcome to the Western Vascular Centre Website

The Western Vascular Centre is situated at the Private Consulting Rooms, Western Hospital in Gordon Street, Footscray. Our Centre is staffed by a Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon, phlebologist, theatre nurses, and reception staff. We have an onsite vascular imaging facility affiliated with Western Vascular Diagnostics.
Mr. Franklin Pond MBBS GBED (Melb) FRACS (Vasc)

Mr. Franklin Pond is a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon with a special interest in minimally invasive procedures. He performs endovenous ablation and sclerotherapy for varicose veins, endovascular intervention for aneurysms, angioplasty stenting for occlusive arterial conditions, and dialysis access for renal patients. He also performs open vascular reconstructive surgery.

Mr. Pond graduated from The University of Melbourne Medical School and commenced training in General Surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. He then engaged in Advanced Vascular Surgery training for a further four years.

Professional memberships include the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), the Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery (ANZSVS), and the Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association (MVSA). Mr. Pond is a tutor and clinical examiner of undergraduate Medicine at The University of Melbourne. He is the Deputy Director of Vascular Surgery and Supervisor of Surgical Training at Western Health.

Mr. Pond consults privately at Footscray, Williamstown, Heidelberg, and Sunbury where he serves as Director of Western Vascular Centre.

Dr. Sharon Felzen graduated in 1984 and, after gaining a solid grounding in general medicine, decided to further her interest in cosmetic medicine. Since 1998, she has pursued this passion. She gained considerable experience in the areas of treating veins and facial rejuvenation from 1998 to 2004 whilst working for a leading cosmetic dermatologist in Melbourne.

Dr. Felzen has worked at Western Vascular Centre since 2004 with Mr. Gary Frydman and currently with Mr. Franklin Pond. Her areas of expertise are assessment of venous disease and performing:-

• Microsclerotherapy for the treatment of leg veins
• Radiofrequency treatment (VeinWave) for facial capillaries
• Botox, Dysport & dermal fillers

Dr. Felzen attends regular local and overseas conferences to advance her experience and knowledge in this field of medicine.

Mr. Gary Frydman MBBS Ph.D. FRACS FACPhlebology

Mr. Gary Frydman graduated from Monash University Medical School and underwent his internship and residency at the Alfred Hospital. Following this he underwent research at the Department of Surgery at Monash University where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) after three years of research in Surgery. He then trained in General Surgery for the next four years and qualified as a surgeon. Following this he underwent further training in Vascular Surgery for three years. He has spent time training in the United Kingdom and in Queensland.

On returning to Melbourne, he commenced practice at many private hospitals throughout the Melbourne Metropolitan Area and has a position as a visiting consultant vascular surgeon at 2 public hospitals in the metropolitan area. He also visits the Bacchus Marsh and Sunbury areas.

His special interest involves minimally invasive vascular surgery. In particular, this involves endoluminal repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, endoluminal management of lower limb arterial blockages as well as the non-operative management of varicose veins.

Mr. Frydman is married with 2 children and has achieved membership in the Division of Vascular Surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgery, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, the European Society for Vascular Surgery, the Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Phlebology. He is also a fellow of the Australasian College of Phlebology.

Mr. Frydman has now retired.
